Microsoft to contest "unjustified" EU move
Microsoft said on Thursday it would contest what it called an unjustified European Commission decision to impose backdated daily fines if it fails to comply with European Union antitrust sanctions.
The U.S. software giant said it had obeyed the Commission's landmark March 2004 decision ordering it to change its business practices but the EU executive kept making new demands and the latest one went beyond the European regulator's powers.

17.11.2007Woman's Divorce-By-YouTube Is 'Scary New Step'
A New York woman involved in a divorce battle spilled secrets about her husband, his family and their intimate life in a "scary, new step" in user
generated content, attorneys said.
Tricia Walsh-Smith can be watched on YouTube lashing out at her husband, Broadway executive Philip
Smith, in a teary and furious clip that has been viewed more than 150,000 times.
Local 6 reported that lawyers can't think of another
case like Smith's and are calling it a "scary, new step." During the video, Walsh-Smith goes through their wedding album on camera, accuses her
husband of trying to evict her out of their apartment, and even makes embarrassing claims about their intimate life. Her lawyer said she acted out of
passion and is a "victim who is holding her head up," though he wasn't representing her when she made the video.
Her husband's
lawyers say they're "kind of appalled."
Other divorce experts said the video will likely come back to haunt her. They said the clip
probably won't help her in front of a judge.

In what some have called a stubborn refusal to recognise that business models must adapt with the times, Robert Smith of the Cure has repeated a

26.08.2005Who's editing your CSS?
Anna Ullrich: The vast majority of front end web developers that I've met prefer to write their own markup in the code editor rather than let the
program generate the markup for them. In fact, it's a point of pride to hand code because WYSIWYG programs have gotten a reputation for bloated code,
mangled tags, and undesirable formatting. Of course this was never the case with Expression Web (for reals!) but once you've been burned by any
markup generator, it's hard to trust any program with your code.
So when does Expression Web touch your CSS and how can you take
control of it (or avoid it all together)? Come, let me show you the ways...

30.08.2007Domain name '.eu' open for
business
BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP)
-- The European Union planted
its flag in cyberspace
Wednesday when the ".eu"
Internet domain name opened
for
business.
Until now, Europeans had to
choose between a national
domain such as ".fr" for
France or a global one like
".com," which is often seen
as American.
EU
Information Society

said she expected several
hundred thousand sign-ups for
".eu" in the first few days.
National registries in some
countries -- such as Belgium,
home to the EU headquarters in
Brussels -- are offering
promotions to persuade
Internet users to stay
local.
But do
Europeans want a ".eu"
domain name? Some business
groups are uncertain how
popular it will be. Europeans
have an EU flag, an EU
passport and an EU anthem but
many have a lukewarm attitude
to European integration -- as
French and Dutch "no" votes
to a new constitution showed
this year...

09.12.2005Can bloggers be journalists? Federal court says yes
When Philip Smith took to his blog to describe his (negative) experience of working with an eBay listing company, he did not expect that he would end
up representing himself in a federal defamation and trademark dilution lawsuit or that he would have difficulty selling his condo after a lawyer for
the plaintiffs clouded his title to the property. Now, after winning the case in spectacular fashion, Smith has emerged as an unlikely hero for
bloggers everywhere who hope to be regarded as journalists.
No US court has yet weighed in with authority on the debate about
whether bloggers count as journalists, but the recent federal decision from South Carolina does indicate that at least some bloggers are journalists.
It's not about the title, it's about the content, said Judge Henry Hurlong, Jr.; a journalist turns out to be anyone who does journalism, and
bloggers who do so have the same rights and privileges under federal law as the "real" journalists.
The case began when Smith
blogged about his
experience working with an eBay listing company called BidZirk. He had a less than satisfactory experience working with the company, and he used
his article as a chance to talk about eBay listing services in general, then closed with a checklist that potential users of such services should
consider.
